Recently, our co-founder and CMO, Jun Baranggan, traveled to Loon, Bohol to conduct training for the Digital Jobs PH Training program. Loon is a 2nd class municipality in the province of Bohol here in the Philippines with a population of 43,034 people. In 2013, a massive 7.2 earthquake shook the Central Visayas Region. Loon was one of the hardest-hit areas. In Loon, a third of the 222 lives lost and nearly 1000 more injured occurred, resulting in the destruction of much of the town.
This program, sponsored by The Department of Information and Communications Technology, or DICT, is focused on helping students excel in the digital fields so they can have a brighter future. The curriculum includes web design and management, SEO, social media marketing (e.g. Facebook ads, YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter), and online digital marketing.
Once the training was completed, the local government of Loon, Bohol decided to take it a step further. They wanted to give the graduates even more opportunities by actually bringing digital jobs to the area. This will allow the graduates to put their skills to use immediately. This allows them to stay local and not have to relocate to cities like Manila and Davao just to find decent-paying and satisfying positions. Secondly, with these new jobs, this digital training becomes an integral part of the ongoing efforts to rebuild and strengthen the economy of Loon.
Birth of The Loon Digital Professionals Network- TeleworkPH Partnership
After seeing the extraordinary benefits of having these digital-based careers stay in the local municipality, TeleworkPH wanted to be a part of it. This project, sponsored by the local government unit or LGU is now called The Loon Business Process Outsourcing Incubation Hub. As the name suggests, this is where the project will develop and incubate until such time as it is ready to stand on its own and transform into The Loon Digital Professionals Network
The consultancy and mentorship will be provided by CMO Jun and TeleworkPH pro bono. We want to make sure these graduates get the benefit of our extensive knowledge and experience in the digital field. CMO Jun has been in the digital field for over thirteen years and has earned many accreditations and certifications. Not to mention the experience gained from running his own successful digital agency in Cebu. Under his leadership and guidance, this partnership will flourish and we are excited to see the outcome of our efforts.
Updates of our ongoing efforts and the rise of The Loon Digital Professionals Network will follow soon. If you are interested in becoming a part of our mission to end poverty in the rural areas of the Philippines, consider a partnership with TeleworkPH. When you partner with TeleworkPH for your customer support or back-office operations, you are doing more than making a sound business decision. You are helping to build up the rural areas of the Philippines.
