The Big Quit — Remote Team To The Rescue

The Big Quit hit America hard and many companies have turned to outsourcing for rescue. Has The Big Quit affected your company? A remote team may be the answer you need.
For seven months, corporate America saw employees resign in record numbers. From April 2021 until early November, over 38 million workers quit their jobs. October alone saw a record breaking 4.2 million people put in their notice and resign.
Now, there could be many reasons for people to be resigning. Many of them may be just switching jobs or leaving low wage trades, such as fast food, and seeking out higher paying positions. Or even better working conditions as those vacancies arise. Another reason why people may be skeptical to re-enter the workforce is the looming threat of still becoming infected by the virus. Still others face different challenges such as finding childcare or even transportation costs.
And then there are those who just simply found that either working from home or not being in a position they didn’t like improved their quality of life.
A survey done by Indeed revealed that out of 1000 people examined a staggering 92% of them said that “the pandemic made them feel life is too short to stay in a job they weren’t passionate about.”
The Big Quit Impacts Many Industries
Industries across the board saw employees not willing to return to work after businesses reopened. Retail stores, leisure, hospitality, and food industries, jobs that require a physical presence, made up for most of that percentage. However, a lot of back-end office based positions, which companies can now do remotely, also remained unfilled. As we hear in the news about fast food and retail companies scrambling to bring on workers, many employers in office settings are experiencing the same struggles.
This left things like bookkeeping, answering emails, logistics, returning phone calls, and other mundane daily tasks unattended. Even social media management and customer service and support roles have become a challenge to fill through the big quit.
Employers are doing whatever they can to lure in and retain workers. Wages have increased and are still on the rise, which has had some effect and retaining workers but not to the extent where everything is business as usual. Even with the promise of better conditions and higher wages, employees are finding it harder to return to work after two years of being at home.
The Big Quit Has Forced Many Businesses To Restructure
A lot of companies thought that after the pandemic had abated, they could return to business as usual. We’re in for a big surprise. Many individuals and businesses did not prepare for the lasting effects on not only their employees but also the way they operate businesses post-outbreak. The ones that had previously gone digital and dipped their toe into the pool of other remote workforce found it easier to stabilize and even pivot during these hard times.
As mentioned above the industries that require workers to be physically present have had to make adjustments in the ways of wages and working conditions. But other industries have found that remote work during the pandemic was more than sufficient and allowed them to survive and even prosper.
Businesses, as workers figure out how they want to proceed during the big quit, must make some changes. One change is to take the example of those that survived the past two years by adapting the remote work concept.
Outsourcing To The Rescue For The Big Quit
Business leaders and entrepreneurs can benefit greatly from offshore outsourcing during the big quit. To put it simply, these jobs need to be done and they need to be done by highly-skilled people. People who know what they are doing. People who can adapt and fit into your company culture easily.
And you can find such people working in the BPO industry in the Philippines.
The BPO industry in the Philippines has taken a giant step away from the “call center” and evolved into a powerhouse of different highly-skilled, talented people. Gone are the old days of just answering phones like in the 1980s and 90s. Today the BPO workforce is brimming with individuals who are university-educated, experienced, and go to extreme measures to protect their skills.
What can be done with an offshore remote team? Anything from accounting to HR to payroll to social media management, logistics, customer support… you name it. If it can be done in an office on a computer, it can be done remotely offshore, sourced by your BPO partner.
English proficiency is one of the areas that gets a lot of attention. In fact, many Filipinos speak English as a first language. Another important fact to note is that in the Philippines universities and colleges only teach in English.
The Remote Concept In Action
Earlier this year we posted A blog about the remote team mindset. Now whether you’ve tried it with your own in-house staff or have explored different ways offshoring can help, I’m sure you’ll agree a remote team is the right solution. Many may still be hesitant since the remote team concept is a bit out of their comfort zone.
But all that may be needed to take advantage of this great resource is a simple shift in mindset.
Here is a quote from that previous blog:
“To drive the point home, when you build a team with Telework PH here in the Philippines, it becomes an extension of your business. But not only that, we monitor our agents’ performance, help streamline processes, even help create some if you have no processes yet in place.
We get involved! Using our expertise, experience, and the experience of the agents by listening to their suggestions we help you create a customer experience that will put your competition to shame. We’re not just a staffing agency.”
So you see the benefits of outsourcing. Building a remote team with a BPO company like Telework PH surpass the flexibility and cost savings. You’ll get to take advantage of the relief from the heavy lifting and stress of sourcing and managing the staff. Of course, you can retain all control over the processes and have as much involvement as you want. However, outsourcing offers a support system that will help you as leaders focus more on the core aspects of your department or business and generate revenue.
